Criminal Defense

An often asked question is, "Why hire a lawyer for a criminal case (even if I know I'm guilty)?", or the question is often presented to the lawyer, "Why defend someone if you know they are guilty?" In most cases being charged with a crime is simply an allegation that you may have committed an offense prohibited by law, but within the definition of "crime" one must take into consideration all of facts and circumstances surrounding the offense. Crimes have two basic elements:
  • (1). The guilty mind
  • (2). The guilty act

Also there are constitutional procedural protections granting your rights before you can be convicted of a crime.

I CAN HELP YOU, AND HERE'S HOW...

If you are charged with a crime I urge you to speak with us as soon as possible. It is easy to do. We offer free consultations to potential clients, either in person or on the telephone. There is no obligation to retain us, so you lose nothing by giving us a call and talking with us. From that consultation we can determine what your situation is, and how we will assist you, and the cost that will be involved.

THE LAWYER IN A CRIMINAL CASE

...acts as an interpreter, both to express your concerns to the court and prosecuting attorney, and to explain to you the charged files against you, the documents, hearings, and meetings that may be necessary to resolve your case.
As your lawyer, we will investigate certain facts pertaining to a criminal case that are not allowed to be given to the defendant directly, without a court order. This means that we, as your lawyer, will be able to learn more about the details of a case than you could without legal assistance. Sometimes a defendant himself or herself will not actually be aware of the facts which may prove he or she is legally innocent, or lead to an acquittal if taken to trial.

Only a lawyer can assess all the facts, and compare them to the applicable laws and penalties to determine what strategy will be utilized for your defense.

Once you know your options you will feel more comfortable, and then you, in cooperation with our law firm can determine options and resolutions for the disposition of your case. Sometimes this is as simple as making all the court appearances without you being in court, so that you can stay at work, avoiding the possibility of losing your job. By being able to make informed, knowledgeable choices, it will make being involved in the criminal process much easier for you.
